Every page on your website has to answer three questions. Do you know what those questions are? Stick around. That’s what we’re talking about today on today’s version of Quick Tips Tuesday.
Hey, welcome back, everybody. My name is Rob Orr. I’m a web designer and developer. Today, I want to talk about a conversation that I have with clients every time we talk about building a new website, or adding new pages to a website. These are the three critical questions that you absolutely have to have an answer for, for every page on your site. If you can’t answer these three questions about your website, then you need to stop what you’re doing and figure out what the answers to these questions are.
Number one, when it comes to a new page for your website, the first question that you have to answer is, who is the target audience for this particular page? Who are the people that are going to be coming to it and interacting with it?
What are their names? Where are they from? What do they like? What do they not like? What is the language that they’re using in reference to the stuff that you’re going to have on this page? All these things are absolutely vital to being able to build a successful page for your website doesn’t matter which page it is, doesn’t matter if it’s your about page, or if it’s your products and services page, or if it’s any other page on your site. You absolutely have to know who the target audience is for that particular page.
The second of the three most important questions that you have to answer for any page on your website is, what do you want them to do when you get there? This is a question that I go over with every new project and every new client that comes on board.
It’s a really simple question. Sometimes though, it seems like its really hard to answer and it causes people to pause and to think about what the purpose of that particular pages. Every time I’m talking about a homepage design with a new client, we’re always going over, who’s the target audience? What do you want them to do when they get there?
If you don’t have an answer to that question, then you got to stop again. You got to stop what you’re doing and go and check and figure out what you want them to do when you get there. It needs to be a good reason that should be part of your overall business plan for what you’re trying to do with your business as a whole.
Make sure that whatever call to action that you put in place for this particular page that is absolutely in line with your overall business goals. That it helps the customer take the next steps for solving their problem and find a resolution for whatever their pain point is.
The third thing that every page on your website absolutely must do, is you have to know what success looks like got to define it. How do you know whether that page is doing what it was designed to do? If you don’t know what success looks like, then you have to figure that out. If it’s a products and services page, or if it’s a description page, or if it’s your About Me page, whatever the page is, what is it that you want them to do on your About Me page, you should be telling your story. Those kinds of things.
Then there’s got to be some kind of way for them to engage with you. Maybe it’s to reach out and to contact you in some way. Maybe it’s to download a guide. Maybe it is to provide them with some kind of resource that is going to get them into your sales funnel, but you have to know what success looks like for every page on your website.
Same thing goes for your sales funnels. Every page in your funnel sequence, you absolutely have to know what success looks like.
