Finally – after working on the idea for a few months now I’ve launched a new service for eBay Blackthorne users to be able to host their Microsoft SQL database in a high-performance and secure, remote environment. I’ve posted the details here.
If you’ve ever used eBay’s Blackthorne tool – even for a few days – you may have come to a similar conclusion: the Microsoft Access database that’s included is ridiculously slow! Even worse, if you need to access your Blackthorne database when you’re not at your main computer you’re out of luck. We know – we’ve been through the same issues and that’s why we came up with this.
Remote Microsoft SQL Server Hosting
This service really came about out of a need to provide a solution for folks having to choose between a really slow Access powered desktop application and expensive and/or complicated VPS (virtual private server) set ups. In our experience, having the capability of accessing your database wherever you can get an internet connection is essential! You can use your Blackthorne application on your desktop, laptop – or both!
So we’ve created this specifically for eBay Blackthorne users; we’ve got other hosting services, but this one is exclusively for you, Powerseller!
Performance & Support
Our service is designed to provide optimal performance and response and is powered by the world-renowned Rackspace Cloud. It’s fully supported, 24-7 with phone, chat, email, and ticket options available.
What are the Specs?
All Blackthorne databases are set up using the following technologies:
- Windows 2008 Server
- MS SQL 2008
- .NET v2, v3, & v3.5 SP1
What Do I Need?
- Chose a domain to use with your account
- We recommend that you get an SSL certificate for the domain name that you are going to be using with your account to ensure proper security

Are You Excited Yet?
Yea, so are we! It’s really not hard at all to get set up. Start by choosing a plan below. We’ve also included a few links to help you get started getting your database configured. We can’t make the connection for you – this has to be done on your end from your computer with your main Blackthorne installation. But not to worry – our support is second to none and can make sure that your database is up and running and your connection is established correctly!
