What’s the one page on your website that most people have never even given hardly a thought to that is probably one of the most important pages on your website? Stick around. That’s what we’re talking about today.
If you overlook building an outstanding About Me page, then you’re leaving an amazing opportunity on the table and you don’t know what you’re missing. Welcome back, everybody. My name is Rob Orr. I’m a web designer and developer who is focused on digital marketing and doing it well.
Today, I’m going to tell you about seven critical components that you need to incorporate into your About Me page so that you are maximizing this incredibly important real estate that is probably one of the top four or five pages on your entire web.
When you’re looking at your website traffic and your analytics, you probably noticed that your About Me page usually is one of the pages that ranks near the top when you look at it over time. It’s the one page that people are going to because they want to learn about you. That’s what we’re talking about today. These are seven critical things that you absolutely must have on your About Me page.
Number one, the first thing that people want to know when they get to your About Me page is how you can help them. Let me let you in on something that you probably not aware of, your About Me page is not about you. This is for your audience. It’s about making sure that you’re able to connect to these people on a human level.
Number one, the number one question that you need to answer with your About Me page is how you can help. You need to talk about how you are able to understand what your audience’s pain points are, and what you do to solve those problems. It’s about being relatable and being human in the mistakes that you’ve made so that people can know and understand that you’re relatable and you’re real and you’re human.
Number two, on our list of absolutely essential questions that we must answer with our About Me page is who you are. What is your origin story? What’s your story? How did you get here? Russell Brunson goes over this extensively in the Expert Secrets Book. If you haven’t read that, I would definitely recommend making sure that you check that out.
This is about building the attractive character. You are presenting yourself as somebody who actually knows what they’re talking about and knows what they’re doing. In order for people to be able to relate to that, you have to have a story that’s relatable. People need to be able to see that themselves in your shoes. They need to see that they can take the same steps that you’ve taken to get to where they want to go.
The attractive character that you’re trying to build here is somebody that your audience can relate to, that your audience can follow that they’re going to want to get behind you and your cause and your mission. It’s someone that they know, somebody that they like, and somebody that they trust as the go to authority for the subject that you are covering.
Part of telling your origin story is also talking about your timeline and how you got from point A to point B to point C, and how people are able to follow along with your path and see what your journey has looked like. People are using actual timelines now where they show when they got started, where their struggles were, how they overcame them, and when they were able to start making substantial progress in their business or in their personal life or with whatever their story is. I would highly encourage you to look into using one of these timelines on your own About Me page.
Number three of the questions that you want to answer on your About Me page is what do you do? Why do you do it? What is your epiphany story? What was your moment where you had the light come on for the first time and you were able to see clearly the path that you needed to take? What caused you to have your AHA moment? What is your story? Why are you doing what you do?
Again, this goes back to being relatable and helping people know and understand that they’re able to take the same steps that you’ve taken to get to where you are so that they believe that they can do it for themselves.
This is also talking about what your brand is, what you are known for. As an example, Pat Flynn is known for Smart Passive Income. Michael Hyatt is known for platform and the full focus planner and being a productivity expert. Russell Brunson is known for online sales funnels. Steve Larson is known for offer creation and excitement in building a business and affiliate marketing.
All of these people are brands. They are representing themselves as a personal brand. So when you’re building out your About Me page, you need to talk about what you do and why you do it, and why it gets you excited.
You’re building a personal brand here, remember the attractive character from question number one. We have to answer this question, what you do and why you do it? You do this by telling your story, your epiphany bridge, what was it that took you from not being able to get things done to the success or the status or the level of expertise that you have now. Why should people listen to you? That’s why we’re answering this question.
The fourth question that you need to answer on your About Me page is what can others expect when they work with me. This is where you’ve got social validation, your testimonials, and the screenshots of people singing your praises online, the testimonials from your clients and your customers where they’re raving about the success that you were able to deliver for them. You have to be able to present this kind of validation so people know that they can trust you, that the other people have worked with you before. They know and they understand the excellence and the expertise that you bring to your subject matter.
In some cases, you’ll also want to include a copy of your resume or your CV or something like that so people know your background and your experience. This can coincide also with the timeline concept that we talked in the previous question. Want to make sure that people are getting the information about you because you’re building an attractive character here. Somebody that people can know like and trust.
Number five on our list of essential questions you have to answer on your About Me page is where can your visitors start? Where do they need to start on your site? Where do they need to start in trying to figure out a way to work with you? Give your visitors a jumping off point for maybe your most popular posts or your most downloaded resources or your most popular products.
These are the things that you’re known for. It gives people a way to jump in with both feet and engage with you. Give your audience a jumping off point or getting started point so that they can find solutions to their problems.
The sixth question that you need to answer on your About Me page is, what are you doing? What are you working on? This is where you introduce your content. This is where you would have maybe a collection of your most recent posts or podcasts or videos on your about page. It’s also a way for you to introduce your products and services. That way when your visitors hit this page, they’re able to paint a full picture of what you’re working on, and how you can help them.
Number seven, in our list of questions that we need to answer with our about page is how can others connect with me. You want to make sure that you are giving people an ability to connect with you on your About Me page. This means this is the place where you include links to your social media profiles. This is where you put a link to a contact form so somebody can reach out to you. This is also where you put a link to a downloadable resource so you can capture an email and get them onto your list and take the next step in building a relationship with them.
Those are the seven questions that we need to answer on our About Me page. If you’re like me, you weren’t answering these questions before, this is probably something that is totally new. The goal of your about page is to build a real connection with your visitors and your audience. They want to learn about you. They want to see if you’re somebody that they can trust. They want to see if you’re somebody that they like because people don’t do business with people that they don’t like.
These are the seven questions that you need to answer on your About Me page. You’re trying to build credibility and trust with your audience. It’s really as simple as that. It’s not just slapping together a couple paragraphs of bio info about yourself and being done with it and saying that that’s all that you need because that is not true.
When you are trying to make way into the market online and trying to build your business, you have to be able to carve out market share for yourself. You do this by building your reputation. It’s really a matter of personal branding more than anything else. That’s what you’re doing with this page as you’re building your personal brand.
You’re building the attractive character. You’re building the charismatic leader that Russell Brunson talks about in Expert Secrets so that you are the person that your audience will know, like, and trust so that they can follow you and follow the steps that you’ve taken in order to get results in their life because that’s ultimately what they’re looking for.
