The under-the-radar trick the most successful entrepreneurs use to generate massive success

Ever felt embarrassed, or like you were an imposter?

Let me know if any of this sounds familiar:

  • You’re afraid of what your family and friends will think if it gets out that you’re trying to start an online business
  • You’re scared that it’s going to cause a lot of changes in your life that you’re not prepared for
  • You don’t know what you don’t know and you’re intimidated by the obstacles that might be in your way
  • You’re afraid people will think you’re a fraud or an imposter.

Ever thought any of those things — or something like that?

In my book I call that the traditional “fear of success”.

It’s a sign that you’re at least thinking deeply about it, which is a good thing.

But it doesn’t have to slow you down, because I’ve felt all those things and more.

  • I’ve been scared to death and even embarrassed to talk to my friends and family about starting an online business, even though I’ve done really well with it
  • I’ve been worried that I couldn’t handle all the things that I need to do, even though I’ve done them (and learned a TON on the way)
  • I still worry about the stuff that I’m not even aware of that I don’t know (but NEED to know), but I’ve put aside that concern in favor of getting out of my comfort zone and learning. And failing. And learning. And failing. And getting better every time.
  • I’ve worried so much about what my peers in the web development community would think about what I do, even though I’m an accomplished web developer with numerous successful projects and awards to boot.

I’ve worried that I can’t be “one of them”.

You know – the ones you look up to, that you admire, and (if we’re being honest) are jealous of their success.

But if you’re serious about getting from where you are to where they are then you have to take the next step.

So what is that next step for you?

Is it building and launching your website?

Is it launching your first sales funnel?

Is it creating your first podcast or YouTube video?

I was talking with someone just the other day about this and they were completely overwhelmed with all the options and things that needed to be done.

She was worried about SEO, starting a web store, word counts on her posts and more.

She was super-excited about getting started, but was feeling the overwhelm of all that was available to her to do online.

My advice was to slow WAY down. Think about what is the next most important, high-value thing she needed to do, and do that.

You see, here’s the secret:

You don’t have to do it all RIGHT NOW!

All you need to do is take the next step.

Then the one after that.

It’s called chunking. I use it all the time when I’m building a big web project. Just focus on checking the next box off the list.

So here’s my challenge for you (no real surprises here!) do the next thing on your list.

  • If it’s creating your first podcast, or your first YouTube video, pull out your phone, hit record and practice.

Just do it.

You see – it doesn’t HAVE to be perfect the first time.

It’s what your marketing heroes do.

Produce. Create. Ship. Evaluate. Revise. Repeat.

In fact, let me let you in on something:

The first versions are more than likely going to suck.

Your first podcast. Your first blog post. Your first video.

Don’t get mad.

Mine did. It’s nothing personal.

It’s because you haven’t done it before, that’s why.

So take the next step.

Then the next one.

Then the one after that.

Listen and pay attention to the feedback you’re getting.

But keep moving forward.

DO NOT STOP.

Persistent effort, over time, will yield results. You have to prepare yourself to handle the next level and that comes from doing the work. Russell Brunson has said that the Russell of 10 years ago couldn’t handle the level of success that the Russell of today is having. And it’s true. You have to grow in to it, so don’t wait around. Start. Ship something. Take the next step. Complete the next chunk.

You’ll be glad you did.

And it will virtually eliminate that traditional fear of failure. It did for me. And I’ve been shipping all kinds of stuff. I still struggle with it, but the struggle gets smaller and the results get bigger.

So keep on keeping on. Don’t give in to excuses.

Go and do the next thing. DO NOT STOP. Do it now.
