Coronavirus talk is everywhere, and affecting everything. Just because we’re focused on online business doesn’t mean that we don’t have to take this seriously, because a lot of our businesses have to do with real-world stuff even though our businesses are online.

We deal with real-world stuff, and real-world topics and we can’t just be there for our audiences when times are good. We have to be there for them when times are hard too.

As online entrepreneurs we position ourselves as the go-to experts on our topics so now – maybe even more than ever – your community and target audience needs to be hearing from you and how this crisis affects things from your perspective.

Coronavirus – What You Should Be Doing For Your Online Business

Good morning, everybody. Welcome back to Adventures in Digital Marketing. My name is Rob Orr. I’m the host of this show. This morning, I just wanted to touch base real quick to just to encourage you. Right now, the whole world is seemingly on the verge of panic over the corona virus.

There are lots of things to be concerned about. Obviously, this is a big deal. It’s a big challenge. Anytime that people are dying from a sudden development in health like this, it’s a big deal. So we obviously ought to be paying attention to everything that’s going on.

What I wanted to do, really is just to encourage you to stay focused and stay the course and to do something that might be helpful to your business and to your target audience. Because right now, the most important thing, I think is for us to be safe number one.

We need to stay safe and take the precautions that we need to be taking, that’s a given. It should go without saying, but sometimes you got to say it because not everybody gets that. Keeping the course that you’re on and doing your due diligence is a vital part of all of this.

We all get that, but what I wanted to do is to encourage you to talk to your target audience about how these challenges affect their business and your business and what you’re doing to help them through this time. One of the things that I’ve seen is what our travel bloggers doing, for instance, that would be a big challenge because obviously flights are being cancelled.

Entire sports seasons are being cancelled. There are a lot of very large and very intense challenges that we’re being faced with. So the big thing that I would really challenge the travel bloggers with is, you still got an audience that’s interested in travel.

Even though the travel restrictions are going to be a challenge, what can you help your audience with to manage these challenges from a travel bloggers perspective? What are the things that they need to be doing and need to be aware of?

Instead of talking about taking that trip to the Italian coast, maybe you’re talking about how people are reacting to cancelled plans. What are the things that you need to be aware of for hotel reservation cancellations and those kinds of things?

Think about the things that are going to be on your customers and clients minds that are their top of mind kinds of things that they’re worried about and speak to those things during this time. I think that’s something that you can do to continue to endear yourself to your audience and help them with relevant, timely information at the same time.

Your focus will shift a little bit because of the pandemic that’s going on, but the thing is you’re there to serve them. So figure out what are their questions that they’re going to have during this time. One of the things that inspired me about this, I saw an email early this morning from a service that I use about what their reaction is and how they’re going to maintain their data centers and stuff like that during this time and what their disaster plans are and stuff like that.

Not that I really anticipate that that’s going to be a big deal for them because they’re a very large company, but it’s good to hear that they’re being proactive and talking about current events, and what their plans are.

So think about that in what do your customers need to know about your business and your blog and your content? What are you meeting to be communicating to them in reference to all this stuff that’s going on?

Finally, I really just want to encourage you to stay the course and to keep a level head. There’s a proverb from the book of Proverbs that says that the man of God avoids all extremes. The point of it is that we don’t let ourselves get too high. We don’t let ourselves get too low.

We continue to stay the path whether you are a person of faith or not, I think the advice in that passage is really relevant at this time. We make sure that we keep a level head that we don’t get too high. We don’t get too low. We don’t go into panic.

We don’t do things that we’ll put ourselves or our families in danger, those kinds of things. At the same time, we were taking the right kinds of precautions that we need to be taking. Anyway, I just wanted to encourage you with that it’s a challenging time for everybody.

We all try to scramble and make sure that we’re prepared and that our families are prepared and that we’ve done our due diligence for taking care of ourselves and our family. Just to be encouraged to keep on keeping on and keep moving forward.

Don’t forget to continue to serve your target audience, your community, your customers. Make sure that they know that you are on the ball, that you have a plan and that you are there for them to help them through. What may be a challenging time?
