Good morning and welcome back once again to The Adventures in Digital Marketing Podcast. My name is Rob Orr, and I am a web designer and developer, and online entrepreneur of sorts. Today, I’ve just wanted to tell you something that I’ve been working on that I’m pretty excited about.
A few months ago, I launched my first sales funnel, which is a training course on how to get your own self hosted WordPress website set up and created. One of the biggest things that I’ve run into that I’ve seen is, there’s so much stuff out there, and there is no shortage of WordPress tutorials and things like that.
YouTube is full of all of that kind of stuff, but I didn’t ever really find something that covered all the bases the way that I wanted to. So I created my course and it’s a walkthrough from start to finish on how to create your own self hosted WordPress site so you can focus on working on shipping your own art instead of getting buried in the tech details.
That’s been going pretty well. The response that I’ve got from my customers on that course has really been encouraging. People are telling me that it’s incredibly helpful and money well spent and those kinds of things. That part of it for me it’s been really encouraging.
One of the things that I added to that course that I wanted to talk about today was one of the things that is the absolute biggest struggle that I see that people I have problems with when it comes to starting their websites. It doesn’t matter whether you’re trying to start your own blog for the first time, or you’re starting a small business website, or it’s an e-commerce website where you got physical products that you’re shipping and selling.
I do a lot of client work. That’s what I do all day, every day. I’m a web developer and that’s what I do. One thing that is a common thread in all of those different clients—like I said whether its e-commerce or a blogger who’s starting for the first time or small business website is creating the content for the website. You have no idea how much of a struggle.
As I work with my clients over time, I’ve had companies that are very solid eight and nine-figure a year revenue businesses with multiple employees 20, 40, 50, 100 or more that have high ticket consulting and conservation and those kinds of things. They’re doing consulting for landowners and other big businesses. They do really well financially.
I guess is what I’m trying to say. And whether it’s a big business like that or it’s a small business where it’s just a small team of folks. Everybody struggles with writing website content. It could be an attorney’s office.
It could be the blogger who’s getting started for the first time. Everybody struggles with it. So what I’ve done is I put together— I call it a website content blueprint. This is one of the things that are offered in my funnel.
One of the things that I’ve been doing recently with it has been really encouraging. I’m running Facebook ads to my lead magnet and that’s doing really well. It’s converting really well. It’s helping me really quickly grow my list which has been really encouraging.
Part of the offer that I’ve got is part of that funnel is this website content blueprint. Right now, it’s only $7 which is kind of a steal, but in that guide I’m covering everything that you need to have to build out your website.
So if it’s a small business website, if it’s a blog, if you’re an e-commerce store, if you are trying to build your own personal site because I get a lot of resumes and for people looking for work. It’s funny some people do it really well.
Not everybody remembers that they are a personal brand and when you’re sending your resume and the whole purpose of that is you’re trying to market yourself. There have been few and far between websites, but a couple of them have done really good where an applicant will send in a link to their personal website.
It’s done really, really well. Anyway, but I got content in there for creating a personal website which is kind of your sales CV/resume website, and or portfolio site if you’re a creative agency those kinds of things.
What I did in that that I thought—because as I’m talking with my clients and we’re talking through building websites. One of the things that we go through is these are the pages that you’re going to need. Your site mapping is always one of the first things that we do when we’re building a website.
We start to spell it out these are the different kinds of pages that you’re going to need and every website has its own core set of pages that it’s going to need. That means that everybody needs an About Us page, everybody needs a Contact Page, everybody needs an FAQ page, those kinds of things.
So, what I did is I built out this guide that covers the different pages that each of those different kinds of website are going to need. Inside of each of those different kinds of websites I go over the things that you need to have for the pages on that specific kind of site because obviously you don’t need a Products page if you are building a portfolio site for instance.
You’re not selling physical products. It doesn’t make any sense to do a service page there. Anyway, the whole idea is figure out what kind of site you’re trying to build and then these are the core pages in that site that you need to build.
Then inside of that is some guidance and instruction on how to create those pages. This has been something that I’ve been going over with my clients for years. It’s been super, super helpful on how to do that because everybody needs help.
Even if you’re going with a copywriter and you probably should and if you’ve got a bigger budget and you’ve got some very specific kinds of goals that you have in mind for creating, or trying to generate leads and those kinds of things from your website. But when you’re creating content everybody needs guidance.
You need to know what it is that you’re trying to create for that website. That’s what that guide is as it stands right now. The thing that I’m really excited about right now is that I’m actually going to open up that guide and expand it.
Then there’ll be a couple different versions of it. The new part that I’m working on is really cool because I’m expanding the kinds of sites that are included in the guide. I’m adding in some stuff for sales funnel site and a couple other different kinds of sites.
And then I’m adding in some additional page types that I don’t have in there now. It’s going to be expanded with some additional kinds of pages that you need to have for each of your different kinds of site. I’ve got some really cool stuff.
There are going to be checklists, content planners, those kinds of things that are going to be in there as well. I’m really excited about that. I think that’s going to be really helpful. Because like I said, when it comes to building out their website, everybody struggles with creating content. That’s going to be available hopefully before too much longer, and will actually be part of that funnel.
One of the things that I’ve been thinking about including with that is a couple other bonuses that I’ve got from other parts of the funnel to really make that make that guide thing. Definitely one of the things that I am 100% convinced that I’m going to do is a physical copy of the book that you can lay out in front of you when you’re creating your website and have it on your desk in front of you open up and that way you’ve got it right there in front of you while you’re working on those kinds of things.
So, if you’ve ever struggled with creating your content, I definitely encourage you to take a look at this. I’ll share the link with you at a later date because right now the expanded version is still in concept. There’s still a lot to write.
I think it’s going to be really cool. I think it’s going to be really helpful because I know the things that I’ve been doing with my clients over the years. These instructions that I’ve created and the guidance that I’ve created and the tips and the tricks and the copywriting things that everybody needs to pay attention to that I’ve been going over with folks for a long time now are all going to be collected into this and edited and boiled down to give you the essential info that you need.
Then when it comes to creating content for your website, it’s just going to be a snap. It’ll be super easy. You should be able to find guidance for just about any kind of page that you want to create or need to create on your website there. So keep an eye out for that and that will be hopefully coming up in the near future.
Another thing that I’m excited about that I’ll touch on really briefly is the new website content, not a website content book, but the WordPress website blueprint. In the beginning I was telling you about my WordPress course and how it covers all of the steps that you need to go through to create your own WordPress site.
Well, I’ve created a companion book for that and I’m actually working on that right now. That I’m also really excited about the same kind of concept is the content blueprint book where it’ll be a wire-bound book that you can have on your desk in front of you while you’re building your website.
It’s got every step along the way for what you need to do for creating your own self hosted WordPress site with screenshots and all of the various different things that you’ll need there, too. Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks even that will be done and that’ll be available as well.
I just wanted to share those things with you. Those are a couple things that I’m excited about that are coming out and tell you more about those as they get closer. Those are the things that I wanted to share with you.
Thanks for tuning in this time. Keep an eye out for those links and until next time. This has been Rob with The Adventures in Digital Marketing Podcast. We’ll see you later. Thanks
