I hope you had a great Holiday Season! It was a great time for rest and relaxation and I didn’t realize how much I needed that! Sometimes it’s easy to forget that you need to take time to get away and recharge. In my first episode of 2020 I’m talking about what’s coming up and today I let the cat out of the bag. I’m super-excited and I think this is going to be incredibly helpful to so many who are looking to get started!
WordPress Website Challenge
Welcome back everybody to Adventures in Digital Marketing. I am Rob Orr. I am your host. It is bright and early here on a Friday morning on January 3 just after New Year. This is the first podcast for me so far in 2020.
I’m back to work after spending some time away. You’ll notice if you listen to the podcast that I have stepped away for the last couple weeks for some much-needed rest and relaxation. Man, I can’t tell you how much I needed that. It was in hindsight.
Man, I think over the last couple of weeks I’ve just caught up on a ton of sleep and rest and I feel completely rejuvenated. I got to spend some great time with my wife and my little girl over Christmas and New Year. It was really much needed.
We needed to get some time together because we’d all been charging pretty hard. I know for myself, I’ve been charging pretty hard in my business, in my work as a web developer. It was really nice to be able to unplug and unwind a little bit.
We got to go to Colorado to visit my sister and brother-in-law and spend Christmas with them which was really nice. It was amazing. I never get tired of being out there. We’ve got a running joke in our family that I keep telling my wife, I said, “The next time you take me out there, I’m not coming back.” Its mornings like this in Tallahassee that reinforce that because it feels like it is about 80 degrees.
The humidity is about 150%. It’s absolutely gross outside. It feels like a mid-summer morning not a winter morning. Anyway, 2020 is going to be a big year. I’m excited about it.
I don’t really do resolutions anymore. Those are things are nice. I like to try to stick to focusing on what I’m going to accomplish by quarters. This is really just the first quarter of the next year. If you’ve been listening and paying attention to any of the stuff that I’ve been talking about lately, it’s really been a lot about starting the year off on the right foot and some things that I’ve been working on.
Two things, I introduced a couple episodes ago, the Seven Pillars of Digital Marketing. I’m definitely going to get back to that because I think that is the key that is going to absolutely unlock doing business online. Let me just step up on my soapbox and rant for a minute.
One of the biggest challenges and pet peeves that I have in the online business world is online business for the sake of online business. This is really a means for– basically people are talking about how to do things online. It’s in the internet marketing space.
The digital marketing space where all you’re doing is teaching other people how you make money talking about internet marketing and digital marketing online. It doesn’t really make much sense if you’re outside of the internet marketing arena.
Now, that being said, there’s some people out there that are really good at helping digital marketers do digital marketing online. There’s definitely a niche for that. There’s definitely a space for that, but this cyclical kind of thing that is just a repeat of going on and on about where there’s, you’re not teaching people anything of value to do anything other than digital marketing.
Really just it kind of sticks with me and I find it a little frustrating. Because if you’re like me, you don’t want to just be a guy who is or gal who is doing digital marketing just for the sake of doing digital marketing. Teaching other people how they make do business online.
It just doesn’t make any sense. Because how do you apply that to any arena outside of the internet marketing space. If you can do that and help people to understand how they can do business in areas that are not internet marketing then I think that you are onto something.
That is where this idea of the Seven Pillars of Digital Marketing are coming from. It can apply to any business. I know that Steve Larson and Russell Brunson talk about this a lot on their own podcast where the concepts that they teach are able to be applied in any kind of business.
My focus is really been learning how to do that where I’m almost to the exclusion of the internet and digital marketers. I’m wanting to help normal people that want to build a business online. Maybe they have a brick and mortar store or they’re a blogger and they don’t want to talk about blogging, right? They have a business.
Maybe they’re contractor or maybe they are in some other kind of business. They want to be able to do business online, too. That’s where I kind of have formulated this idea of the Seven Pillars of Digital Marketing. Anyway, we’re going to come back to that and I will pick up on that probably again next week so stepping off my soapbox now, but I just wanted to touch base on that because I think that’s crucial.
I love internet marketers. I spend a lot of time talking with and networking and connecting with other digital marketers. I learned from digital marketers. I have nothing but the utmost respect for all of the hard work and hustle that it takes to be a successful digital marketer.
Trust me, I totally get that. For me, there’s more to online business than just internet marketing and info products and that kind of stuff. Anyway, going back to the Seven Pillars of Digital Marketing. One of the things that is a big deal for those pillars is a high quality website.
This has been something I’ve been kind of working on for a while. It’s still not quite ready to go. I need to get some stuff done for, but I want to let you guys know that I’ve got a WordPress website challenge that is going to be starting soon. I’m really excited about it. I’ve been talking to some people about it.
The feedback that I’ve gotten is been really good. My goal is to help people in a challenge kind of format, build their website and launch it going from nothing to a fully configured website over the course of a few days, a couple of weeks. I’m still not entirely sure what the timeline is going to look like on that.
The idea is going to be that you are to kind of use Russell’s phrase, you’re one website away from breaking through and charting your own path and doing your own thing and being able to build independence and build freedom into your life. Yes, sales funnels can be part of that.
That goes back to the Seven Pillars idea, but the first main building block, to build a business online, is you have to have a strategy and the knowledge to go online and to build your own self-hosted WordPress website. Do it from start to finish.
Because I know a lot of people struggle with that. That’s the whole reason behind my website workshop course. It’s the whole purpose behind the website blueprint book and my WordPress checklist that I’ve created. Some of those things that you may already have and if you picked up any of those things, I am very thankful that you have done that.
I’m very excited that you’ve done that. I hope and my prayer is that those things are helpful to you as you seek to get off the ground and get moving and build your own space online. But if you need more help, the next step it will be to get involved with this one website away challenge.
I’m super, super excited about that. Not necessarily going to call it that, but that’s the idea. We’re going to walk through all of the steps. We’re going to go through domain registration, picking a host, getting WordPress installed, all of those things. Then we’re going to also talk about content and themes and marketing and all of those kinds of things so that you can get it all set up and done.
Anyway, I’m really excited about that. I’ve been working on it for a while. I’m not quite ready to roll it out yet probably be a couple of weeks yet. Before I do that, but as soon as I have it up and ready to go, I will.
I’ll put it out there and you’ll be able to go in and get on the waiting list to be notified about that. If you have on your list of goals for 2020 or you’ve made a new year’s resolution or your first quarter goals include something about doing something online.
You’re ready to start your business. You’re ready to start your blog. You’re ready to take your brick and mortar business online. You’re ready to take your business online or take the next step and you need a new website.
This is definitely something that is going to help you. I’m really excited to tell you about that because I think it’s going to be awesome!
Anyway, that’s really all I had for today. I just wanted to say Happy New Year and to talk a little bit about this. I hope you guys had a great holiday season as well. I hope that you got to spend as much or as little time with family that you needed to that it was a time of refreshing and a time for you to reflect and think about what 2019 was for you and set some goals and do all of those kinds of things.
Anyway, Happy New Year. I hope you guys are doing great. This podcast is available in all of the places where you can get podcasts, iTunes, Spotify, all of those different kinds of places. I would love it if you would subscribe and let me know.
Give me a rating. Let me know where those things are. One more thing real quick before I get off here, I do want to let you know about is to make sure if you haven’t already subscribe to my YouTube channel. I’m going to be doing YouTube videos on this idea, the Seven Pillars of Digital Marketing.
I really would love for you to be able to see those. Go to roborr.tv and you can get subscribed there. I’ve already got some videos up there that I think that’ll be helpful for you if you are trying to get started with ClickFunnels or you’re trying to get started with WordPress or you got questions about those kinds of things about how to do a self-hosted WordPress site. That kind of stuff. You can find all of that there.
Anyway, you guys, take care. I hope that you’re all doing great. Make sure you subscribe. Have a great day. Have a great weekend and we will talk again soon. Bye.
