I’ve been working on a printed version of my WordPress course for a while now. I never knew how much went in to creating a book, and I’m sure I’m still only scratching the surface! I finally received my proof copy of version 1 of the book and it’s ready to go. In this episode, I’m talking about the book and what went in to creating it.
The Ultimate WordPress Blueprint is Ready!
Good morning, everybody. Welcome back. This is The Adventures in Digital Marketing. My name is Rob Orr. I’m your host. This morning, I’m really excited because I received yesterday my proof copy of the WordPress Blueprint Guide book that I created a while back. I am super, super excited about how that turned out.
That’s what we’re going to be talking about today in this episode is, what the book is and how to make the most out of it, and how you can get your copy. Thanks for tuning in. Like I said, yesterday afternoon I was super excited. I felt like one of those authors that you hear about the first time they see their name in print even though it’s a print on demand book. I was so psyched.
Somebody knocked on our door about four o’clock and I wasn’t sure when to expect it from the shipping company. I knew it would be coming soon but I didn’t know whether it would be like today or sometime later this week or whatever.
Somebody knocked on the door and I’m like, “Man, I know I haven’t ordered anything from Amazon this week.” I was super excited though once my daughter brought in the box and this is big box because the book is big. There it was my WordPress blueprint book was right there and had my name on the cover. The cover I designed whole nine yards. It was really, really a cool experience.
First thing we did, we ran into the kitchen turn on the lights and started going through and checking it out and see and everything and it was a really exciting time. It was cool because my daughter was proud of me. I was proud of me. I got lots of kudos from my friends when I posted it out to social media.
People are seemingly excited about this book. I was super excited to be able to get it and never had that experience before I have to say. That was a unique one there for me.
Anyway, the WordPress book is something that I created based off of my WordPress course that I’ve created about how to build and launch your own self hosted WordPress site. For the longest time I had been wanting to do that and I’ve talked about it before in past episodes about what the purpose behind the course is. The idea is just to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools that they need to create a really solid self-hosted WordPress site the way that a WordPress developer would do it.
I’m a WordPress developer. I create new sites basically every day. I use most of those same techniques and tools and plugins and themes and stuff like that on a regular basis for my work as a WordPress developer so I created this course to outline all of that stuff.
Then the book is another way to present this same kind of material. My whole idea was and I got this idea after going through The One Funnel Away Challenge, of course is I’m trying to figure out what kind of products and things that I can create.
The idea was really to find a different way to present this material. So what I did is I went and hired somebody to help me do the transcripts from all 23 of the videos that are in my course. I didn’t realize it was going to be that much. I was kind of blown away to be honest.
We’re just under 400 pages in this book. There’s 388 pages in this book. What we did was, I grabbed all the transcripts had this transcription just go through it. She did a fantastic job and pulled out all the audio cleaned it all up.
We broke it down by the different modules in the course. There’s a module on getting started. There’s a module on how to install WordPress manually.
There’s a section in there on how to select a domain name and choose a web host. There’s all kinds of stuff in there. One of the things that I get a lot from the WPLaunch customers is they just don’t know how to work with the WordPress dashboard.
They get frustrated with trying to create posts and add featured images and all that sort of stuff. Then WordPress, threw everybody a curveball last year when they release WordPress 5. They included the Gutenberg editor now as the standard editor which there are some people out there that like it.
Most people hate it. I’m one of those people that I don’t hate it, but it doesn’t work for my workflow. What I did in my course is I had to go through and give it a good test run to see how to it would work in a regular basis. There are lots of great tools and things like that.
For some people, it’s going to be a really great solution. Anyway, so I went through and I kind of digested what all of the different plugins and blocks that you can create were and I outlined them all in my course and created a study guide to go along with that.
I covered the Gutenberg editor in this course. It was really, really awesome. I think that’s actually one of the most valuable parts of the course because Gutenberg is just so new to so many people. We got that.
There’s a whole section on how to do theming and how to work with your theme and how WordPress works with themes and widgets and all that kind of stuff.
The book was modeled after how Russell Brunson did his Funnel Hacker’s Cookbook. I thought that was– when I got my version of The Funnel Hacker’s Cookbook, I’m like, “Man, what a really cool idea this is. How cool is this to be able to have a book that is open on your desk that you can sit there and read through and have it open while you’re working on it and have the layouts and the different things there.”
His Funnel Hacker’s Cookbook is a good bit more fancy than my book is. My book is the same size though it’s eight and a half square. Its spiral bound. You can do the same thing.
You can have an open on your desk. Then we got just tons and tons and tons and tons of screenshots throughout the entire book showing the different shots for where you can do the various different things.
It really turned out well. I was so encouraged when I saw it. Most of all I thought about the people that it’s going to help. That’s the whole reason behind why I created this.
Yes, I’m trying to build a business. Yes, I’m trying to build some additional income for my family, but I also want to help people to be able to build something for themselves online to do the same thing. That’s how I got started online.
I was trying to figure out new ways to do things online to make additional money. I mean going back many years that was a whole reason behind why I got started. Being at the mercy of an employer, there are good employers and they’re bad employers.
Sometimes you just need a little bit more. You need to be able to supplement your income with some additional stuff and you don’t want to have a garage sale every weekend. Even if you did have a garage sale every weekend, you’d eventually run out of stuff.
Being able to build some additional income starts with being able to do business online. One of the lowest barriers to entry and that’s one of the things I love about The One Funnel Away Challenge that I’ve talked so much about is it’s such a fantastic tool to help people to learn how to do business online.
So my WordPress book is the other side of that coin. Yes, you need sales funnels if you’re going to try to sell stuff online. I have become completely convinced that it’s absolutely essential to have a sales funnel component to your online business and in some instances it can be your only web presence.
But for a lot of other people, that’s not the only thing that you need. You need to be able to have a regular website where there’s more information about who you are, what you do, what your portfolio is, what your services are, various different kinds of things like that for people that may be having questions about those kinds of things.
The WordPress site addresses all of those things. My WordPress book was designed and developed specifically to be able to address those needs. I’m excited. I’ve still got to finish the funnel in ClickFunnels for how to be able to start promoting and giving this book away.
There’ll be a way to get a free copy. They’ll be a way to get a print version of this. Along with some additional bonuses that I’m going to include, I’m excited about that part.
I think that’s going to be really cool. Then there will also be a way through this to be able to get the videos that I use to build the book because the book is the transcripts of the course so my funnel is going to include both the book and the videos as well. I’m still working on that part.
I got a couple kinks to work out. They send you a proof copy because you need a proof copy. I ordered mine because I wanted to be able to put it in my hand and see what it would look like and turn the pages and I was really impressed with the print quality.
The print quality was really, really solid for doing print on demand which is what I’m doing. I am an independent author. I’m not being paid by Wiley or Schuster, one of these big publishing houses to write this book.
Nevertheless, it’s my book. I am an author. I’m super psyched about that. I’ve told you guys before also that there’s another book that’s coming which is the content blueprint about How to create and Craft content for your Website that will follow a similar kind of idea. That will be next up now that I am mostly done with this.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve got for today. Make sure that you subscribe to this podcast and we’ve been talking about that too much because obviously it’s a new podcast. There are still places where I’m trying to get my podcasts published, but I’m now on iTunes.
I’m on Spotify. I am on I believe its Google podcasts and a couple other places. So most places where you can find podcasts, my podcast is listed there. I would love it if you would subscribe and leave me a review.
I know that my audio is a good bit different than probably most podcasts that you listen to. But as I mentioned before, I make this podcast while I’m driving down the road into my office in the morning when I’m trying to capture my thoughts and those kinds of things.
I figured if Russell Brunson can do it, I can do it. It’s not that I’m trying to neglect that part of it, but I’m trying to maximize my time so that I am being productive as much as I can. There will be regular versions of the podcast in the future I’m sure where I am sitting at a desk or somewhere where the audio quality will be a little bit better than me just recording into my phone.
For now, this is, this is what it is. This helps me to be productive. We are almost at 20 episodes now and I would love to have you subscribe to this podcast and get it where you can.
Also, one other new thing that I haven’t talked about on the podcast is my YouTube channel. I’ll put that in the show notes so you can see that but I have started to create YouTube videos where I’m talking about some of the same things that I’m talking about here on this podcast, but doing it in a little bit different way.
You can go to my blog to find where you will be able to subscribe to that. Thanks for tuning in. Until next time, we’ll see you later.
